Special Programs

Sailing is like riding a bike ... you never forget, right? Well, some of our students say it's more like "driving a car". You know ... you get your license but that doesn't mean you're ready to get on the freeway by yourself!

So, in an effort to help our students gain more confidence or just get in some practice before venturing off on their own, we offer these special programs.

SailBuddy Program

Bay Area Sailing School and Sackett’s Sailing Center has provided this site to help sailors locate other sailors to sail with. Only sailors who have completed the ASA Basic Keelboat Course (or higher) will be invited to join this group. In addition to helping you locate people to sail with, this site also has an event calendar, links to other sites, photos, discounts and more. We hope this group will be helpful, and allow you to share the fun (and expense) of sailing. This site is restricted to certified sailors only, and will be monitored to prevent abuse. If you would like to know more about this program or receive an invitation to join, please call us at Bay Area Sailing School. (281) 334-4179

Mentor Program

The Mentor Program allows you to go sailing with an experienced sailor until you feel comfortable sailing alone.

Knowledgeable, trustworthy sailing friends have signed on to help us with this program. The Mentor Program is open to all students who have received their Basic Keelboat certification through Bay Area Sailing School.

Here's how it works ...

Two weekends a month, Sackett Sailing Center will provide a 22' sailboat for a mentor and students to use for 3-4 hours in the morning at no charge! This will help any student who wants a little more experience sailing to increase their confidence.

After sailing with a mentor a few times, you'll be an "old pro" and ready to move on to bigger boats. The Mentor Program is free, and space is limited ... so, call in advance to reserve your spot.
